Carpal Tunnel Exercises: the Logical Alternative

The only true way to combat CTS is to understand how it works and what it does. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a disorder that develops in the hands and wrists. When they are in constant use it breaks down the tissue inside the region and can become numb or have a burning sensation associated with it. While many people mistake this for simply being overworked, it’s important to take the appropriate steps to alleviate the problem. If you just let it go, the end result could leave you with serious nerve damage or even worse.

If you want a medical explanation, it all starts with the median nerve. When this is compressed you contain CTS in your wrist. When things aren’t working the way they should, fluids will build up around the tendons. There are ways to fight this off, but the decision on how you go about it is entirely up to you. However, we recommend that you stop thinking about surgery and steroids. Instead, fight CTS off with yoga-based exercises. When you start your routine the results will be short lived, but as you strengthen the wrist and arms, you’ll soon find yourself benefiting from the results. Just think of it as a different type of massage and it will start to make sense.

You have to go all the way back to Hindu philosophies to get a true feel of what yoga is all about. It’s popular today because it helps clear the mind, but many people stray away from it because of time constraints or just the fact that men think it’s strictly for women. It’s not the case, and if you take advantage of these methods, you’re sure to help your carpal tunnel syndrome.

Posture is one of the beginning stages of fixing your carpal tunnel issues. You can start by sitting straight up and down in a chair with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Now move your shoulders back and down, repeating this about 10 times. It will allow your back to open up a bit and relieve tension. Placing your hands face down on the sides and positioning them a little behind will stretch out the tendons in your wrists.

Sit in your chair with the back rest to your right, under your right arm. Twist your torso slowly to the right, until you feel a slight pull in your lower back. You may use your arms to provide support and a little torsion. This is wonderful for alleviating pain in the lower back; just be sure not to overstretch or you might worsen it. You can also do this to the left — just look at the steps and substitute “left” for “right”.

Stand up and face a wall. Set your feet about a foot apart, and reach up with your hands. Bend at the hips slowly as you plant your palms against the wall. Do not arch your back inward too much, or you risk straining your back. This stretches the back, shoulders, hips, and the back of the legs.

The main goal is to fine tune your yoga exercises and make sure they done slow and smooth. You don’t want to add in any sort of quick twists or bends or you’ll end up hurting yourself more than helping. Just relax and take some deep breaths along the way. You’ll end up bringing yourself a sense of piece and be more productive throughout the day.
