It comes a time when most smokers decide to quit. Some of them succeed, but others are defeated by their lack of motivation. Nothing seems strong enough to make them stop smoking. Because they aren’t affected initially by various complications and diseases caused by cigarettes, they continue to smoke.

Only the desire to stop smoking is not enough, you must focus on bad things, such as the cost of cigarettes. It’s important to emphasize the reasons why smoking is an enemy that must be defeated. Don’t be disappointed if the message written on the package of cigarettes has no effect on you; what matters is to find the right motivation.

Smoking effects are promoted through all the channels on the market, fact that wasn’t happening some times ago. We can find more about the risks involved by smoking in brochures, books and media, including the Internet.

All tobacco products, regardless of their quality, contain many harmful chemicals, which affect the body and change the metabolism, damaging the organs responsible for breathing and cardio-vascular activity. Carbon oxide, lead and other substances contained by cigarettes, affect the memory, stimulating the nervous system; thus, the smoker becomes more agitated. Moreover, smoking lowers the body resistance to various infections. The number of sick people among smokers is two times higher than among those who don’t smoke.

Smoking is responsible for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure and chronic couch. It was discovered recently that other complications include an increased incidence of respiratory infections, pneumonia and influenza.

Anyone who smokes presents a higher risk of coronary disease, arrhythmia and myocardial infarction. Moreover, various types of cancer are caused by smoking in 85-90% of the cases; we’re talking about cancers that affect the oral cavity, the pancreas, kidneys, stomach, pharynx, larynx, cervix, bladder and esophagus.

Smoking nearly doubles the risk of having a baby with low birth weight. Babies with low birth weight may have greater problems of health in the first months of life, greater risk of chronic disability (cerebral palsy, mental retardation and learning problems), or may even die. It is known that smoking slows the growth and development of the fetus, and numerous studies have shown that it increases the rate of births before term (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) by 20%.

Only half of those who smoke admitted that they do it from pleasure. According to a study on the causes of cancer conducted in UK, 47% of the smokers say that smoking helps them to withstand the stress. There are many reasons why people smoke, including the consumption of alcohol or drugs, stress, maternal smoking, sedentarism and psychiatric disorders.

Smoking has been promoted as a habit that brings many advantages: success, confidence, power, attractiveness and acceptance. In fact, smoking leads to disease, premature death and sexual problems. Are you ready to pay with your life for a harmful illusion?
