In today’s modern age of advanced medical and scientific breakthroughs, there seems to be no end to what we can do to improve health and increase our general well being. If you were to do a web search on “health,” you’d likely come up with millions, if not billions, of hits.
But you break things down into their most basic elements, there are really only four areas of concern. Proper food, proper water, proper air, and proper sleep. Anything that you can find, any idea or plan on increasing help will fall into on of these categories.
Food, water and air are fairly straightforward. Eat healthy fats and carbohydrates, and avoid sugary foods and most animal fats. Similarly, clean water and clean air are so obvious that most people don’t even think to be concerned about them. What what about sleep?
Sleep is far and away the most neglected area of health for the mast majority of people living in western society. But without a consistent good nights sleep, you can easily develop a host of health problems. What’s worse, is that many time these health problems won’t be attributed to sleep at all.
One of the main reasons people don’t get a solid nights sleep every night is due to sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is anytime during the night that you momentarily stop breathing, for any reason. This usually happens many times during the night. If you suspect you have sleep apnea, the best course of action is to record yourself sleeping, and then play a recording for your doctor. That way he or she can listen and make an accurate and helpful diagnosis.
Even though sleep apnea can cause many debilitating problems, once it’s diagnosed, it can easily be cured. All it takes is some forethought, and a visit to your doctor. You’ll be sleeping like a baby again in no time.
